You will be part of our Corporate Affairs function, which supports the whole GN Group world-wide with all legal matters, risk & compliance programs, intellectual property rights information security and data privacy. As our new Group Legal Counsel, IP, you will be based at our global HQ located in Ballerup, Denmark.

What will do be doing?
You will be part of a business-oriented, passionate, and supportive in-house legal team focusing on IP that provides best-in-class support within all business areas at HQ, EMEA, APAC and LATAM. As part of a diverse organization, you will work closely with colleagues across the global business becoming a trusted IP advisor to HQ functions, as well as regional stakeholders around the world.
You will assist and support our diverse organization on IP matters by utilizing your sound judgment, legal knowledge, and expertise across a wide range of areas and different types of tasks, all with the overall objective of securing GN’s intellectual property rights.
Specifically, your job will include a variety of exciting tasks, including in particular:

Acting as the subject-matter IP expert within GN’s legal team by sparring with and assisting other team members on IP centric contractual issues, particularly in the context of patents

Being a proactive legal business partner to Group IPR, particularly in the context of potential or ongoing IP related disputes with third parties. Taking part in legal risk analysis, settlement negotiations and providing litigation support in patent infringement and/or misappropriation of trade secrets actions. Support on management of stakeholders and external counsel

Providing legal support to the R&D organizations within GN with regard to contracts, which have important IP implications, such as cooperation with universities or other research partners, joint development agreements and/or license agreements (including for standard essential patents)

Software license agreements; review and interpretation of standard software license agreements, including open-source software license terms, as well as drafting and negotiating ad hoc license terms for e.g., GN SDKs or other proprietary software

Contributing to the continued development of IP understanding across the Group through internal training and support

As our work is global, some travel may be required when cases and projects necessitate it
Sound good so far? Here’s what you’ll need to succeed and create results:
Education: You hold a master’s degree in law (a Danish Cand.Jur. will be considered an advantage).
Experience: We are open to your level of experience, where we believe that you have you have specialist knowledge and broad experience with Patents, IP litigation, supporting R&D functions, trade secrets and software licensing. Moreover, you have a strong legal background with experience from a well-reputed law firm or large corporation including experience as a qualified lawyer. Candidates with less seniority but talent and the right experience may however also be considered for the position.
Excellent communication skills: Fluently in written and spoken English and Danish, whereby you can communicate with internal and external stakeholders at all organizational levels in a clear and concise manner. The ability to work in other languages is a strong asset since we are an international organization with colleagues in over 50 different countries.
Can-do attitude: You are positive, proactive and have a can-do mentality with a natural instinct to take responsibility, set a direction, prioritize, and drive a process.
Business Acumen: You are pragmatic and open-minded in your approach to solving challenges, with the ability to find pragmatic solutions that work in the real world rather than legal solutions that only look good on paper.
